A Picnic

We picked up sushi and flatbread in the Basement Food Hall of Ginza Mitsukoshi

Then we took it to the 9th-floor terrace

Herb Garden for the restaurant

The Clock Tower across the street

Thanks to Amy for the images of the terrace.

Then back to the hotel for a break before the evening's adventure.

The old Fish Bar becomes the Gin Beach Cafe

Gin Beach Cafe

In Montauk, the restaurants are always changing.  This is where FISH BAR used to be.  It was hard to get that expectation out of my head.  This new place is not too bad.

Notes

Looks the same as before...

Almost

Not a full liquor license yet:  just beer and wine.  Does BYOB extend to a bottle of vodka?

The help and vibe were of a family that had run a diner for years, very much a mature 'whatever' attitude.

The staff went to the kitchen to check the catch of the day.  It was reported to be fluke, tilefish, or cod.  Of course, that was wrong, and the choice I had chosen WAS NOT available.  Good, because I learned what tilefish is and that we like it!

We took it to go for a picnic at Gin Beach.
Softshell crab and tuna tacos.

Tilefish wrap. The sauce made the wrap soggy, but the taste was great!

House fries - Originally thought they were flaccid and bad, but we changed our mind.
