A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Wine Bar: Iavarone Brothers Cafe

Iavarone Brothers Cafe

We were headed to Montauk for the Labor Day Weekend, and planned a dinner stop at Spuntino Wine Bar & Italian Tapas:  But we pasted an old familiar Iavarone Brothers first.

Notes

Wednesday is half price bottle of wine night, and NYS law says we can take home what we do not finish!  So a $34 bottle of Chianti cost $17 - less than 2 glasses of the same wine!

RUFFINO CHIANTI (ITALY) and Focaccia: great start

First Montauk Trip of the Season

Hurricane Grill & Wings

Our First trip to Montauk this year. We are taking Wednesday and Thursday to go out, inspect the new windows, turn over the garden, and make sure all is well for the summer season.

Notes

This restaurant is off the road, and you have to know where you are going.  They've been here SIX years, so they must not be too hidden.  This is a great spot for mid-trek stopping.

They have GREAT SPECIALS

These Tacos are very healthy... IF you skip the chips.

Perfectly seared Ahi Tuna cooked medium rare served on top of an Asian slaw in two flour tortillas. Finished with a Cucumber Wasabi sauce and green onions. Ahi Tuna Taco | 620 Cal.

The teriyaki Steak was excellent. The meat is tender and shredded.

Teriyaki glazed steak sautéed with red bell peppers and broccoli. Served on a bed of our Cilantro Lime rice and topped with sesame seeds. Teriyaki Beef Bowl | 1330 Cal.

So Our Dogs Walk Into a Bar..

Blackbird Kitchen and Cocktails

Amy found this place on Long Island that looked like a good stop on the road to Montauk.

Notes

We even got good parking out front and seating at the bar in the window so we could watch the dogs.

Well, the bartender and a couple patrons invite the dogs to join us!

The Schmankerl Stube Bavarian Restaurant, Hagerstown, MD

Where to start about this first meal stop on our trip to Texas...

We had a [presumably] new server.  So, things did not go well.  Enough said on that.

Amy had the Herzhafter Sauerbraten  Fall apart good, but a little more vinegar was needed, but that is just our taste.

I had the Wiener Schnitzel, great crust, with Spätzle:

And of course, BEER!

The house special this week is the: Grilled Tournedos of Beef Filet topped with Seasoned Lump Crab, served with Potato Snow and Vegetable of the Day - Not sure how German, but definitely Maryland.

Pizza for the Mets Game. Ledo Pizza

Fettuccine Bolognese with Goat Cheese
This regional pizza chain was a great find on Chincoteague Island, VA.  We had the 14" HOTLANTA BBQ : Their signature square crust drizzled with Urban Bar-B-Que® Yella sauce, sliced chicken, regular bacon, and jalapeños topped with Provolone cheese.  It was amazing.  We also ordered a second pizza and the Fettuccini Bolognese  with goat cheese topping.  All were perfect.  I do not know if they deliver, but if we had ordered over the phone, we might not have made the perfect meal choice.
